COUNTING WHAT COUNTS

One of the most difficult challenges in CSR is measurement. Counting what counts is an essential part of every effective CSR strategy and every CSR manager’s tool-kit.

We are pleased to invite you and your colleagues to a special one-day executive development program called Counting What Counts: Measuring the Heart of CSR Performance (199 KB PDF)

With Canadian social performance expert, Dr Robert G. Boutilier and ACCSR’s Managing Director, Dr Leeora Black.

The program will be run in Melbourne and Sydney.

Melbourne: Monday 16 April 2007
Melbourne Business School
200 Leicester Street Carlton

Sydney: Thursday 19 April 2007
Westpac Place
275 Kent Street, Sydney

Time: 9.00am – 5.00pm

In this intensive, hands-on workshop you will learn how to count what counts in corporate social responsibility. This workshop will take you through a CSR performance measurement framework that puts stakeholder relationships at the heart of CSR measurement.

  • Learn how to map stakeholder networks and issues.
  • Use stakeholder and issue maps to predict and manage socio-political risk.
  • Gain insight into the latest thinking in social capital and the globally validated Stakeholder 360™ measurement and engagement framework.

You will learn:

  • How to choose the right measure for the task at hand
  • To understand the differences between tangible and intangible measures and their strategic significance
  • To understand the intersection between measurement, reporting and performance improvement
  • How to measure the quality of stakeholder relationships through analysing social capital
  • How to interpret stakeholder and issue maps to guide managerial decision-making
  • How to integrate analyses of stakeholder networks and issues to predict socio-political risks to companies and guide community development efforts

Our international expert for this program is Dr Robert G. Boutilier, Associate at the Centre for Sustainable Community Development at Simon Fraser University in Canada, and President of Robert Boutilier and Associates. Dr Boutilier applies concepts like social capital and network analysis to the challenges organisations face in managing stakeholder relations and promoting community development, particularly in developing countries.

ACCSR is again offering an early bird rate for this event. To take advantage of this rate your registration form and payment is due by the 16 March, 2007.

TURNING POINT CONFERENCE

It was with great pleasure that ACCSR hosted the Turning Point Conference at Westpac on February 5. This event, attended by 150 people, was an overwhelming success, delivering thought-provoking discussion and insights into the domestic and international CSR policy issues and trends confronting all organisations.

Summaries of the Turning Point proceedings, as well as speeches, photos and a delegate list are available via the ACCSR website. To access these materials click here.

ACCSR would like to thank all speakers, sponsors, volunteers and delegates to the conference for your support and attendance. We look forward to making an ongoing contribution to the development of CSR in Australia.

ASX REVIEW OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE PRINCIPLES

ACCSR has tendered its submission to the ASX Review of Corporate Governance Principles. We argued that guidance to corporations on sustainability/corporate responsibility reporting, especially related to disclosure of material social and environmental risks, is within the purview of the ASX Corporate Governance Council. We advocated adoption by the Council of Option B (presented in its discussion paper), introducing an “if not, why not?” reporting requirement in Principle 7 with guidance, involving additional reporting obligations for companies.
